Summary

Welcome to Kinloch, and the hottest winter Scotland’s ever seen。

Zoe’s always played it safe, just as her parents wanted。 But when her great-uncle dies and leaves her a ramshackle cabin in the Scottish Highlands, she decides it’s time to change her life。

Upping sticks seems like a good idea in her cosy London flat, but the reality is very different。 There’s no electricity or running water, the roof leaks and there’s no front door。 If that wasn’t bad enough, she’s moved up in the depths of winter and her scorching hot neighbour wants her out。

Rory’s got a fifty thousand tonne problem。 If he can’t make Kinloch castle profitable, he’s out of a job。 He needs a clear head, but there’s someone living in the cabin he saw as his own and she’s turned his world upside down。

Rory needs Zoe out of Scotland, and out of his life。 The trouble is, she has no intention of leaving。

Let the games begin…

I really enjoyed Highland games, first off I love a good Scottish romance but on top of that I really love a rom com。The scene where she was drunk and thought he was a bear made me laugh so hard。 I also loved the fact that she may have been a bit mad like her uncle 😂I think they both complemented each other and want to read the next book in the series

Loved this book and could not put it down! It had a bit of everything (fish out of water, hidden identity, enemies to lovers) - and all of it was great。 Zoe came from London to "rough it" in a cabin she inherited in the Highlands, and Rory was going to use every (hysterical) trick in the book to have her gone。 But she manages to persevere along with the laughs。 They are both sympathetic characters but have their own agendas until they decide to work together。 The supporting characters (and pets! This was a lovely debut novel。 Rom-coma aren’t necessarily my go to read but this was a great story。 There were some highly questionable scenes but I think they work in the genre。 I’m in love with all things Scotland so the setting was dreamy and described well。 Rory was broody and sexy。 I was put off by a few things—I won’t say because I don’t want to spoil it! They have to do with meat eating and accents! 😆 Anyway, this was a fantastic read overall。 It was well written and the characters devel This was a lovely debut novel。 Rom-coma aren’t necessarily my go to read but this was a great story。 There were some highly questionable scenes but I think they work in the genre。 I’m in love with all things Scotland so the setting was dreamy and described well。 Rory was broody and sexy。 I was put off by a few things—I won’t say because I don’t want to spoil it! In Highland Games, Zoe has recently inherited a leasehold on a rustic cabin in the Highlands of Scotland。 What she doesn't know is that Rory, the hot groundskeeper of the nearby run-down castle, already had his eye on it and is not so happy that Zoe is now standing in his way。 Rory's plan is just to wait it out until Zoe gets tired of living without electricity or running water and heads back to London。 Of course, it won't work so well if he's fallen for her before he can get her to evacuate。I w In Highland Games, Zoe has recently inherited a leasehold on a rustic cabin in the Highlands of Scotland。 What she doesn't know is that Rory, the hot groundskeeper of the nearby run-down castle, already had his eye on it and is not so happy that Zoe is now standing in his way。 Rory's plan is just to wait it out until Zoe gets tired of living without electricity or running water and heads back to London。 Of course, it won't work so well if he's fallen for her before he can get her to evacuate。I will never not be a sucker for a hot Scot and this book wasn't any different。 It was funny and sexy and took some twists and turns I wasn't expecting。 Very low on the angst factor and it oddly made me almost want to adopt a Dumbo rat (I challenge you not to say "awww" if you google their images)。 I was impressed by Zoe's fortitude--I'm very confident I would not have made it longer than a weekend in that cabin。 She was great at figuring out what she wanted and how to go about getting it。 I love it when a heroine is so fully competent and in control of her future。 I had some issues with how everything came together in the end (somebody's elder needed to go into COLD STORAGE and do some major groveling before I'd be fully good), but it wasn't enough to ruin the completely HOT reunion and I'm already looking forward to the next book in the series。 Thank you to @eviealexanderauthor and Emlin Press for the eARC in exchange for an honest review。 Highland Games releases October 15, 2021。 #bookstagram #bookstagrammer #stlreads #steamyromance #bookreview #romance #eviealexander #highlandgames 。。。more

What is there to say about Highland Games that hasn’t already been said? It’s fantastic, for starters! Zoe moves to a cabin in Scotland after her great uncle passes away, and is stunned to find it has no electricity, furniture, or (my greatest nightmare) phone service。 After a scare from man-bear Rory and his wonderful dog, Bandit, the two bickering MC’s spend the next few days trying to prove to the other who the cabin should belong to before they finally start working together。For someone who What is there to say about Highland Games that hasn’t already been said? Okay, so we have Zoe, a young woman who peaced out of her old life after inheriting a shack (that’s putting it nicely) from her great-uncle。 But said shack is located on an estate in the Scottish Highlands, so who cares if there’s no running water or that you have to pee in a hole in the ground, am I right? However, not everyone is happy that Zoe has decided to make herself at home。 Rory, aka the earl of the estate, has his sights set on living in that pile of kindling—I mean, cabin—where Zoe is Okay, so we have Zoe, a young woman who peaced out of her old life after inheriting a shack (that’s putting it nicely) from her great-uncle。 But said shack is located on an estate in the Scottish Highlands, so who cares if there’s no running water or that you have to pee in a hole in the ground, am I right? However, not everyone is happy that Zoe has decided to make herself at home。 Rory, aka the earl of the estate, has his sights set on living in that pile of kindling—I mean, cabin—where Zoe is currently squatting ‘cause he ain’t about that castle life。 So, he sets about trying to force Zoe out with little pranks that don’t work at all, and somewhere along the way—when Zoe asks him about his wood, perhaps—a spark ignites between them (just not in the cabin, please, because that shit would burn down fast)。This was a really good debut novel, and I’m interested to see where the story goes next (book two sounds great)。 I appreciated Zoe’s tenacity and her obsessive use of spreadsheets。 And Rory, well, Rory has 99 problems but a lack of a hard-on for Zoe ain’t one。 For some reason, I really didn’t connect with Rory too much。 I’m not sure what it was, as he seemed like a great guy。 As far as the story goes, this one was a slow burn, but once that fire ignited, it became a raging inferno, and there was a time or two when I wanted to turn the hose on them。 But it wasn’t all about the sex。 Rory was also tasked with saving Kinloch Castle from financial ruin and dealing with a meddling mother who’s obsessed with him marrying his former fiancée。 I would have loved to have explored that a little more and felt the ending was a tad rushed。 But all in all, it was a good story for fans of the enemies-to-lovers trope。 I was gifted a copy of this book by the author in exchange for an honest review。 All opinions are my own。 。。。more

As a steamy romance, Highland Games probably ticks the boxes - the plot line followed the expected pathways for a romance novel, romping along in a pleasing way, and the structure of the novel was well handled throughout。 However, for my taste, the sex scenes interfered with the writing and were so cliched as to be off-putting。 As a reader, I would prefer to leave some things to the imagination。 I guess I'm just not the target audience as other reviewers seemed to love it。 As a steamy romance, Highland Games probably ticks the boxes - the plot line followed the expected pathways for a romance novel, romping along in a pleasing way, and the structure of the novel was well handled throughout。 However, for my taste, the sex scenes interfered with the writing and were so cliched as to be off-putting。 As a reader, I would prefer to leave some things to the imagination。 I guess I'm just not the target audience as other reviewers seemed to love it。 。。。more
